Respite has been shown to:
- Help sustain the health and well being of the family
- Avoid or delay out-of-home placements
- Reduce the likelihood of abuse and neglect
- Reduce the likelihood of divorce and help sustain marriages.
At least half of adults with a learning disability live in the family home-many don't get the same chances as other people to gain independence, learn key skills and make choices about their own lives.
7 out of 10 families caring for someone with profound and multiple learning disabilities have reached or come close to 'breaking point' beacuse of a lack of short break services.
